2019 Directed: Robert Eggers, Written: Robert Eggers, Max Eggers

Score 5/5

Probably the 5th time I’ve seen this or something. I really enjoy this moive. It’s so wild and weird. I love how loud it is, how quiet it is. I love the (apparently) 1.19:1 aspect ratio, the black and white. The Odyssey (Nolan, 2026) looked fine in imax, I feel like The Lighthouse would look incredible.

I got more of a Crime and Punishment (Dostoevsky, 1866/67) vibe from this viewing. Maybe it is all happening in Winslow’s head? He seems to be desperately yearning to be judged a good, honest, hard-working man, but he is not judged well in this movie. And who to be more judgmental than Winslow himself?
